I'm back running after eleven days off under doctor's orders. Ran Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a total of 30 kilometres and 206 for the last four weeks. I haven't forgotten how to run. I want to write at a little more length about a discovery that my usually cumbersome legs gained some springiness after all that idle time. I'll do this in my next blog post over the Easter/Anzac Day weekend. While I'm here I'll raise a glass of Samuel Adams to my marathon friends running in Vienna, London, Enschede and Boston.
I'll leave you with a photograph of the stitching on my right calf (just below the knee), and another of three amazing women. Pam, Liz and Ruth completed their 10th Canberra Marathons last weekend, thus earning 'Griffin' status. There are only five women in the Griffin Club. Pam ran the marathon in 3:43 and continued on to complete the 50k Ultra in 4:31. Pam has entered this year's Badwater Ultramarathon. Liz (despite some anaemia and other issues) ran 3:19, and Ruth broke the 6-minute km barrier with a 4:12. Well done ladies!

Just saw on the site that Thomas did 2:59:35 for the Vienna Marathon!
Still waiting on Rick's result. Can't find the tracker.
Did you know I have a "Griffin" following me on Twitter too. Hope something rubs off. Well done Ruth!
Rick did 02:49:40 in London!
Glad to see you're on the mend! Just started with some Lydiard hill bounding this week which should put some 'spring' in my step (if I survive). Have you tried that?
Oh yuck! You look like a warrior. One that doubles as a coin purse.
Glad that's over with and you're back on the road. Can't wait to read about your discovery, oh how I love discoveries!!
Scott, that's terrible news about Thomas. Means I'm going to have to set aside 2 hours to read his race report. Great to see Rick pull out a good one too - only 4 minutes off the 2:45. I'll have to check out your "Griffin" - we have a runner here calls himself Griffin, but now he's an 8/1500 runner - about 5-flat for the 15, same age as me.
Mike, haven't actually tried the hill bounding (or springing) - have heard it's good value though. Good luck with yours.
Flo, got the stitches out this arvo. The nurse was very caring. All clear on the pathology results too - Woohoo! I want to try and make some sense of the discovery in my head before I write about it.
Great, fast and tough ladies, congrats!!!
Sorry for your wounded leg but this means that you are a real warrior!!!
"Black Knight" How did you know that "fast and tough ladies" is what Ewen affectionately calls his legs!?
Thank you Black Knight. Very flattering. Glad you are back running Ewen. Might see you out on the trails/paths over Easter.
Ok Ewen - I think a leg wax is in order before the "after" photo! Glad the stitches are out, all is ok and you can run again. This "amazing" (cough, cough)Griffin appreciates your support.:)
That's a great compliment coming from a warrior such as yourself Stefano! I only have three damsels whilst you have scores ;)
Scott, I'll pay that one... but don't give up your day job.
Hi Jog. Thanks. I'm on the trails and paths of Wagga this weekend, but hope to catch you the following... at least for a coffee.
Strewth, as Scott Brown of girlie arm-warmer fame keeps telling me, "waxing is for girls."
Glad to hear the nurse managed to remove the Dollar from your wallet :0]
Terrible news? Hey, I never forced anyone to read my stuff! You just skipped down to the last page anyway, admit it!
And why is Scott's face in the first 4 comments? At first I thought I was even more drunk than I actually was!
Ha ha Rick. I usually don't carry that much cash on me.
Thomas, truth is, I enjoyed reading it (every word). Sub-3 after 7 years is worth reading about... took 2 days though! I'm a slow reader. Don't worry about Scott - he repeats all his jokes until he gets a laugh.
Sorry, run to slow for the 3:45 houre in Enschede!.Next time i do the 3:30 pace ;-).
The ladies run fast the marathon and ulta, good job.
Get better soon with the wound and a nice Easter
Glad you're back to running. Eleven days is a long break! I don't think I could handle it. I'm already antsy after 3 days...
It's cool that you can follow the progress of Boston, London, etc. real-time from so far away. I thought of all the people who might be watching the tracker each time I hit those mats. And, as I began to slip, I knew that people all over would be wondering what had happened. It's cool what technology can do, but also cool that it still has it's limits.
Ewen, that is ginormous. You've earned your warrior status!
Rinus, you can do it! Just make sure you run 3:30:00 and not 3:30:18 ;) You have a good Easter holiday too.
Robert, post marathon is the best time to enjoy a good break. You won't lose the fitness you built prior to Boston. Tracking was fun - just wish the race started at 7am so I could be in bed before midnight ;)
Thanks Susan, but my surgery was just a paper cut compared to yours.
